Hey guys,

I installed MGmaps with offline maps and it works fine. However, is there a way I can use the GPS built in the phone to see my location on the offline map, or is there a way to do this with another app. I blocked all data usage on my plan so it would have to be a way to use GPS for offline map without data.

Thanks

From what I understand our GPS initially uses data to connect. That being said you would be charged for some data, how much I'm not sure. People om the other forums (impression, eternity - these are very similar) are looking into internal settings to see if
a different setting can be used so no data is involved. Will update when I find out more,
as I wouldn't mind this option myself. I have unlimited data and all the GPS apps I've found on forums work great and  I'd love to use them in the woods where half the time I
don't get cell reception.

Thanks man. By the way, are there any options to get GPS without data. I heard about bluetooth GPS receivers. Which ones will work on this particular phone and will they work without data.

Thanks

Have you tried to use mgmaps out in the woods without a connection? Our gps is set to standalone and there has always been the question whether it will connect or not without celltower help. It may take longer to connect but it just might.

Hey guys,

So i looked on the impression and eternity forums and got even more confused.
So what I gather it is possible to get position using internal GPS without data plan?
In MGMaps when I select show position I get an error saying cannot determine position and to try again in a few seconds.
How do I get the MGMaps to use the internal GPS to give position. I installed the app using TKFE.

Thanks

So I came across the We-Travel app. Will it allow me to show my location using internal gps without data?

If you can make a map. The application is pre beta. They cant even make a good map on their forum. And the application on phone is buggy.

With MGMaps you have to set the app with its settings to use the internal  gps. It may not connect automatically. It can take a few minutes some time.

Man I really need to get out of cell tower range and figure this out. There doesn't seem to be a definite answer yet. I have unlimited data so I just haven't , but curiosity well you know.

I  Liked Nav 4 all as my secondary GPS app and then I got this email :

Nav4All to me
show details Feb 3 (1 day ago)
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 28-01-2010 16:30 GMT+1

Subject: Nav4All navigation shut down by Navteq

Letter to 27,625,631 Nav4All navigation customers

Dear Customers,

It is with the deepest regret that we hereby notify you that the
global navigation of Nav4All and the Tracking & Tracing will go
offline in 3 days. The reason for the same is that the data licence
agreement with Navteq (a 100% Nokia subsidiary) was not extended, in
a totally unexpected manner. It is not possible to implement data
from another supplier in our Nav4All systems within the short term.
The Nav4All navigation system was developed for Navteq data. Nav4All
has therefore been constrained to stop................BLAH BLAH

OH WELL

I got that letter too. But that app was really bad. Amaze 4.5 is still kicking. Maybe it was only scare tactics to say it was going to end Jan 1st.

Doesnt the mythic have yellowpages that also uses the gps?

Yes mythic has yellow pages w/gps ,free too except for data.
Nav 4 all is definitely offline, doesn't work anymore. I'm glad about amaze though, hope
they stay up for free. I still have google maps, mgmaps, amaze and mapnav installed. I think I'll survive lol

i can't get the gps to connect on my mythic on mgmaps even with the setting set to 'Internal GPS'

I then went into the admin setting --> internals --> LBS setting --> get position test
and then it still doesnt get position. all it says is 'waiting response' and i never get the position. perhaps this is why mgmaps cant connect because the phone itself cant connect.

is there something wrong with the phone. we have five mythics on a family plan and all the phones do the same thing.

Is your internal setting for gps set to standalone ? since you have all data blocked on phone plans this might confirm the GPS needs initial data to start. I have data and my GPS is set to standalone and the get position test works. I'm thinking you need data.

Try reading this , might help :

Are you also trying to get the gps to connect by going outside in the open sky? If you are inside you may never get a gps signal.

yeah the setting is on standalone.

i think we do need data to get gps position.

when i try the get position test and leave it open for a while, it comes up with a message about being unable to get the satellite list. perhaps the data tells the phone which satellites it is able to use and then the position coordinates are sent.

i will try the test once more and post back
