For those of you that have downloaded google maps from google mobile and were disappointed as to not receive the touch version or a version that doesnt use the gps, I have the solution for you. Follow my directions.
1) Delete any previous versions of google maps
2) Download the jar and the jad from below to your computer
3) Install Google maps with the TKFE install method. http://www.samsung-solstice.com/index.php?topic=194.0
4) Disconnect from TKFE and go outside and start google maps allowing the gps to connect
5) Enjoy! This Tutorial and Google Maps with GPS provided by Agoattamer
New Version. 3.0.2. Updated on 7/2/2010 by Agoattamer. This version now includes google latitude.

With the Method you describe above here in this Mythic forum, does this not require the "Goatbreaking" I have seen in forums for the other Samsung phones?
Also, I have used the method descibed above, "Install Google maps with the TKFE install method." My question is, how can I tell whether the software is using the GPS or instead is using the cell tower triangulation.
Thanks.

If you install an app using TKFE then it doesnt need goatbreaking. If you install an app by downloading it from the internet then it needs to be goatbroken.
If your location shows where you are at with a blue dot then the gps has kicked in. If there is a shaded blue circle around the dot then it is using triangulation.
Better yet if it shows you exactly where you are at then it is using the gps. All gps apps should only be used outside in the open sky or in your automobile.

Thanks for the comprehensive and useful reply. I understand now.

The code to rotate on the solstice is added to the jad also for you.
Do you have any idea why Google Maps on my Mythic will not rotate to landscape when I rotate my hadset? Thanks!

apps have to have a special code in the jad for this to happen on the solstice.
MIDlet-ScreenMode: ROTATE
I made you a new jad up. I thought I had already made the modifications. I guess I didn't. I will replace the one in the first post so it rotates for everyone. Just use TKFE to replace that jad you have installed with this jad and delete the appdb folder one more time. You should be good to go.

can it use just the gps? are you able to turn off cell tower triangulation and does the triangulation require a data plan? thanks.

The whole app requires the internet. Maps are not stored on the phone. They are downloaded constantly as needed.

I am wondering if I will be charged additional to my unlimited data, for using a GPS app. I do have unlimited data, but I can barely tolerate paying for that, if I have to pay more for this I will refrain, but if I can do it for free (who doesn't like free), I will use it and shout praises unto AGoattamer on here and to friends forever.

There are no additional charges with Google Maps, just your monthly data charge.

I followed the referenced instructions to install using tkfe which places the program under games. There is a folder called "other files" which seems more appropriate. Do you know what it labeled in TKFE? Is there a description available somewhere which tells what is in each folder in the Mysthic files? It there a widget available for googlemaps? Thanks Love the googlemaps.

Is there a way to keep it on GPS or is it going to go back and forth to triangulation and GPS no matter what?
